Easy DIY entertaining tips and tricks to make your 4th of July fun for the whole family!
Fireworks may be canceled and large gatherings are discouraged, but even though your 4th of July festivities may look a little different this year, you can still celebrate our country’s independence at home with some easy DIY projects. I spoke with Joanna Heims of CBS Raleigh’s My Carolina about these fun and festive decor and dessert projects that are the perfect way to ring in the 4th!
Celebrate with Digital Art
One of the easiest ways to create a festive atmosphere in the home is with your artwork, and digital artwork makes that a breeze! This fun patriotic print came from Etsy, which I had printed on card stock and framed in an inexpensive frame from Michaels. When it’s this easy, I change out my artwork for every season!
Red, White & Blue Floral Arrangement
This simple floral arrangement brings in instant July 4th style. To recreate this red, white, and blue vibe simply divide white flowers of any kind into three vases. I used Mason jars. In one vase mix red food coloring with water. With a second vase, mix blue food coloring with water. That’s it! Now your table is ready for the 4th!
DIY Firework Tablecloth
This was such a fun project! I originally found this on Pinterest and knew I had to try it! To create this watercolor firework tablecloth you need a white flat sheet, a red and blue Sharpie, and a squeeze bottle filled with rubbing alcohol. Draw your firework pattern on the sheet, then drip rubbing alcohol onto the pattern and watch the magic happen! Once the alcohol hits the marker, the ink begins to bleed and spread into this beautiful abstract design creating a watercolor effect. Also, because it’s permanent marker, it can be washed and used again! This project would also be fantastic on bedding and cloth table napkins!
American Flag Banana Split Pie
This delicious dish is my go-to summer dessert! My stepmom taught me how to make it years ago, and I always whip it up when I need something fun for a small group. I don’t always create the American flag on top, but considering we are celebrating the 4th of July, why not?! I have posted the recipe below! It’s so easy, and one you will want to make again and again!
1.To make the pie crust: Combine graham cracker crumbs and 1 1/2 sticks of melted butter and press in bottom of 9×13 pan. I usually put the pan with the crust in to the fridge for about 20 minutes to help it get firm before adding the other ingredients on top. 2.Combine the confectioners sugar, cream cheese, 1 1/2 sticks melted butter, and1 tbsp. vanilla well in a bowl using a hand mixer or stand mixer. Mix until not lumps from the cream cheese are left and the mixture is smooth. 3.Spread cream cheese mixture over graham cracker crust. 4.Layer with cruushed pineapple, strawberries and bananas. 5. To make whipped cream (this recipe come from Joanna Gaine’s Magnolia Table cookbook): In mixer, combine heavy whipping cream, sugar, and 1tsp of vanilla until soft peaks begin to form. I test whipped cream consistency by scooping a spoonful and then turning that spoon upside down to make sure the whipped cream sticks. If it falls of the spoon it isn’t ready yet. 6. Spread whipped cream on top. 7. Arrange blueberries and additional strawberries on top in the form of an American Flag.Ingredients
